Shadow and Bone
I've been craving some fantasy drama so I thought I'd dip my toes into a Shadow and Bone. I haven't read the books, I just wanted a little magical escapism. The escapism element didn't last long with the main character sustaining plenty of racism, particularly for being half Asian. Regardless I got invested in the characters, the world and the story pretty quickly. It was really good to watch while working on my assignment. Although, I haven't watched an episode of it since finishing said assignment.
Deadloch
As soon as I heard this show was made by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan I knew I had to sit my arse down and glue my eyes to my flat screen. My sense of humour was defined by The Katering Show so I figured I would be laughing so hard I wouldn't be able to breathe. I was right.
If you need a crime mystery dark comedy drama packed full of inventive quips and lesbians this the show for you.
Only 5 episodes out of 8 are out and already I think I might have to rewatch it. Outstanding writing, a mind-bending mystery and incredible performances.
The Outlaws
This show has been on my radar for a while now as I have a tiny crush on Darren Boyd. I finally found some time to start it and was pleasantly surprised. I'm only one episode in and I've already fallen in love with this awkward warmth that radiates from these oddball characters and their stories.
I'm not sure how this show escalates so perhaps this cheery unexpected camaraderie turns into something much much more.
Notes
✷ Also TV talk, I've been waiting very impatiently for We Are Lady Parts season 2. Then I stumbled upon htmljones' review of Polite Society which is also by Nida Manzoor. I'm hoping that Polite Society will sustain me until the band gets back together.
✷ I experimented with shrink plastic again. I'm getting there. I think I might have to get one of those UV lamps to cure the resin evenly and also a heat gun to shrink the plastic consistently.
✷ I might share some of the art I make on Substack Notes so keep an eye out over there. I’ll of course keep sharing work on my Ko-Fi.
